Joyce spent 23 years as a Career and Technical Education teacher in Culinary Arts. She has helped her students gain the skills and experience needed to enter the foodservice industry and/or attain advanced placement in culinary schools. Now she is excited to return home to the Tennessee Valley and bring this experience to It’s Thyme To Cook. Her goal is to provide you with a fun, hands-on learning experience as she assists you in advancing your personal culinary skills from where you are to where you want to be.
With a Master’s of Education in Vocational Home Economics, a Florida Teaching Certificate, Pro-Start and Serve-Safe Manager Certified, Joyce was a finalist for her district’s teacher of the year. She has completed additional culinary training at Johnson and Wales University, Miami, Lincoln Culinary, West Palm Beach, both Mid-Florida Tech and Disney Culinary, Orlando, FL, and Sullivan University, Louisville, KY.
Joyce has been cooking since she was a child standing on a chair, with her farmer dad – a former Army cook – as her first teacher. She advanced to family meals, Sunday meals for church friends and then meals to feed the farm “hands.” With this background, it was inevitable culinary would become her career focus. From those humble attempts her training prepared her, along with her students, to cater events for community organizations, her school board, county commission, and Florida’s governor. The largest event was the annual school barbecue serving 500 meals for scholarships. Now that’s a lot of grillin’ and not much chillin’! Her proudest production events were the rehearsal dinner for her daughter’s wedding and the reception dinner for her son’s wedding.
With a strong education background and extensive production experience, Joyce will provide you with a professionally developed, well organized and fun cooking experience.
